Kelsey Summerford, DVM

Dr. Kelsey Summerford is a Tuscaloosa native. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 2014 with a degree in Exercise Science and minors in both Spanish and Psychology. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2020 from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Summerford wanted to be a veterinarian when she was young but had a change of heart before college. During her senior year at UA, her Australian Shepherd Koda became very sick with cancer and passed away. The veterinarian who took care of Koda inspired her to change her career plans back to veterinary medicine. This veterinarian was Dr. Robert Collins, who was working at another veterinary clinic in town. Unaware of his impact on Dr. Summerford’s decision to change majors while in college, Dr. Collins was contacted by Dr. Summerford seeking a position with him. As doctors, they both strive to have this strong of an impact on owners to express their compassion to serve our community.

Dr. Summerford joined McLendon Vet Clinic in June 2019 with special interests in preventive medicine, oncology, physical therapy, and veterinary mission trips. She also has a special place in her heart for all senior cats and dogs and serves on the local Humane Society Board.

She is excited to be back living in Tuscaloosa with her husband and their pets. They currently have 3 senior dogs and cats and welcomed their first human baby in 2021. In her free time, Dr. Summerford loves doing anything outdoors, traveling, and cheering on Alabama football in the fall. She looks forward to meeting you and your pets soon!
